What you are about to see will explode…metaphorically

With Blackwater in the news, this industrial video for the company and their services is really more of a curiosity than a bad advertisement. Aside from some wonky transitions, it’s par for the course for most industrial videos.

The matter-of-fact presentation of the killing training is a little humorous, but more likely than not this will make people wish they could go through the training they show off. And don’t miss the shot of the pitcher of iced tea at 5:10 in the video. That sold me, I’m suiting up and going tomorrow.

Top 9 Indie and Alternative Rock Songs Ruined by Commercials

Plenty of old school rock songs have been played to death by commercials to the point where you forget they were even original artist recordings. This Top 9 List is devoted to the Indie and Alternative Rock songs that have been ruined or marred in one way or another by television advertising.

Number Nine: Punkrocker by the Teddybears by Cadillac

This one ranks not too highly because it didn’t get overplayed quite as much or over such a long period of time as some others on the list. But when this commercial made it to the small screen, the track was just reaching popularity, meaning this spot came out right at that magical sweet spot in the life of a popular music track to taint its listenability.

Nothing is broken
Everything is fine

We’ve implemented a new design template for Awful Commercials, and the forums are now live. If you encounter any site problems please let me know, though things are most likely working better than before, not worse. For instance the ‘next page’ button now appears at the bottom entry lists. And that weird smell is gone.

If you’ve registered with the site through Wordpress, that should be your forum login. If you have trouble registering or logging in please let me know.

If you see this post, then you’re seeing the site on its new server. I’ve restored some comments lost that were made while we were moving the database, but some may still vanish. If you can see this post, any comments you make from now on will be safe and you can sleep easy.

Top 6 Worst Commercials of 2006

#6: Chrysler / SunCom co-op

I’m not big on top 10 “whatever” lists, and didn’t plan on doing one for the worst commercials of 2006. Until I ran into a few lists that other publications had done. Namely, this list by Slate.com made me cock my head to the side like a confused dog and whimper out a confused grunt. Really Slate, do you really think these are the first ten worst commercials of the year? Or are they just the first ten commercials you found? In fact one of them (the Fudgems one) after viewing I decided must be one of the BEST of 2006. (I did agree with the article on at least one contender.)
