Here is a present to the Geico cavemen fans who frequent this site. I found this fortune cookie fortune inside of an ordinary fortune cookie. Two things are unusual about this otherwise ordinary fortune: One, it doesn’t predict the future; Two, it co-opts in broken English Geico’s ‘So easy a caveman can do it’ slogan.

I guess this qualifies as word of mouth or meme marketing, since I don’t think Geico has signed any fortune cookie deals. Though you never know.

  1. This is a gross misinterpretation of the marketing campaing of the Geico cavemen.

Obviously, the term “Caveman” when used in the advertisement is supposed to symbolize an unintelligent and unsophisticated person. Hence, shopping for insurance at Geico is so easy, someone as unintelligent and unsophisticated as a caveman can accomplish the task easily! Therefore the average Joe, should have no problem accomplishing the feat as well.

If we put this into the context of the fortune cookie, we are to interpret it as:
“The food here is so good, even unintelligent and unsophisticated people think it’s great”. This in no way, makes me think to highly of the food that is served there. They would be better off using a person known for his culinary ablities in the saying, rather than a less-than-desirable persona.

I know this fortune cookie was primarily made for comedic intent, but sadly the same mistake has been applied to other marketing outlets I have seen locally. There is a billboard for a company called “Don Mould’s” plantation. The sign reads “Even cavemen shop at Don Mould’s Plantation”. Like I said, the literal grammatic interpreation of the sentence does not generate the intended message. The marketing person who came up with this should be fired immediately.
