| I bet no one has ever tried to use female sexuality to sell beer before |
In this commercial for Coors Light (the “Pauley Shore of Beers”) several things have gone horribly wrong. A lot of beer commercials use sexy women to sell beer, but there’s usually a little more to it then two guys pointing at a girl in bikini who is holding beer.
The biggest failure here is the use of a joke from a Seinfeld episode as a pretense for a punch line. In the Seinfeld episode Jerry is trying to find out if a woman’s breasts are real or fake. At the end of the episode she says “they’re real..and they’re spectacular.” The makers of this commercial requiring the audience to have this information already to understand the joke is stupid enough, but even having this information only makes what the woman is saying make a little bit of sense instead of making it a funny joke.
All this aside, the script content of this commercial boils down to two guys saying “I like boobs! Boobs are big.” The punch line continues to flail naked, hung upside-down from a lamppost and beaten by Italians as we notice that the woman’s breasts really aren’t that large.
If anyone needs me I’ll be on the beach in my black bikini getting hammered.

[…] Moving on, in the next spot Lee is once again unhilariously paired up with another star, George from Seinfeld. It’s quite clear Jason Alexander is supposed to be his “George” character talking to his boss George Streinbrenner here. And once again we see another commercial that relies on the existence of the Seinfeld TV show to make any sense. […]

How can you dog the use of a Seinfeld joke in a beer commercial? I think that’s what makes it great. And sure, there’s a boob joke… do you have something against boob jokes? At the heart of the commercial it’s all about the fact that Coors Light has plastic beer bottles that come in a sweet cooler box. I suppose you have something against Seinfeld, Coors Light, and Boobs. If you’re a guy, you must not be a real beer drinker. And if your a girl, who cares what you think - this spot is for guys who love beer!

Coors must use some local ad agency, or one of their execs must cook up their awful commercials in his spare time. As bad as this commercial is, it pales compared to their unimaginative “coach inrerview” commercials. If they had to go cheap on production, they at least could hire some funny writers to come up with truly clever lines. The dialog they’ve concocted is so braindead lame it’s insulting. (Well, maybe not to Coors drinkers.)

Playball, I think the reference is dumb because it relies on you seeing the TV show to get the joke..or they just stole the line completely. Seinfeld is probably my favorite contemporary standup comedian.
And this spot is not for people who love beer, it’s for people who love piss water.

hahahaha! piss water. (thats sarcasm)
i agree that coors light is as you put it ‘piss water’… but this advertisement is for..(drum roll) coors light.
it applies generally to all people who already love — (drumroll) coors light - and then uses breasts (however small) to drag other people over to that beer preference.
its not meant to be intelligent - or witty even really. Do you think that the audience of coors light drinkers would appreciate intelligence or wit… ? would they really?
no. they appreciate bad commercials -
and i think its decent as far as commercials go… maybe cause im simple minded and like breasts (however small) on cute models..

I know people appreciate bad commercials, that’s why I operate this site. Why are you arguing about this commercial being on here? It is, as you say “not meant to be intelligent - or witty even really.” That’s the entire point of this site, to feature those kind of commercials.

This commercial is completely offensive. It is comparing a woman to an object. So many beer commercials do this same thing…I certainly hope these advertisers are not getting paid a lot because they are completely retarted. Why can’t a beer ad steer away from the SAME thing every time?
