Why does mom have a Rentway arrow
in the shelf in the closet where
she hides our Christmas presents?

At least a company with a giant animated talking dildo should get your attention in their commercials, right?

In this fifteen-second ad for Rentway we see what appears to be a giant talking purple phallus urging us to save more by renting at Rentway. In the end we can see it’s supposed to be an animated arrow.

In the best-case scenario (the scenario where this mascot is not mistaken for a flying penis) an animated talking 3-D arrow is a shitty logo. If they were too lazy to come up with something better they were probably too lazy to check and see if their idea had an uncanny resemblance to a jiggly purple dildo.

This is jiggly purple dildo, signing off.

  1. LOL.. looks like i am not the only one who thought that. So everyone should be glad to know that the commercials will be changing formats next year.

  2. Nifty muzak version of “We Are Family”, too… blech…

  3. I am greatly offended by such utter disregard for a very profitable company and a very well developed marketing department. The sheer genius in advertising is a great effort by a fine company. I am proud to say that I am employed by this great RTO Empire but it is more than just a company! WE ARE FAMILY…MY BROTHERS AND MY SISTERS AND ME!!!!!!!

  4. This is a very well growing company and whoever made this is really rude. i guess some people just have way to much time on thier hands and maybe they should go out an dget a job..

I about threw up after reading your post…Rentway sucks as a company…the research polls prove it…if you listened in your “post Las vegas training meetings” This company sucks to work for and in my opinion will be bought out by the bigger and better by the end of next year!….people like you make me wanna slap ya…hard!…the only reason I’m still with them is to pay the bills and if my upcomming job interview…with a respectable company, in no way connected to the RTO ripoff industry, I’ll gladly sell you my polo shirts for a good price…

And…as far as the one who said this

When Rentway sells out to Aarons and/or RAC….you will then know how shitty a company you work for

  6. Rentway is kinda sad as a company. Not too bad to work for, but can’t see to find a niche in the marketplace. Having seen all that post-Las Vegas stuff, I’d say a buy out or a major overhaul of top managment is in order.

Anyways, the new ads suck too!

  7. People who have nothing better to do than to trash the company they work for on the internet are far worse off than that company! Just reading the profanity alone is proof that the person writing didn’t have a lot going for them anyway. The company is only as good as the employees that work for it. obviously some of you are losers and nonproducers and want to blame the company. RentWay gives you all the tools you need to be successful. If you don’t know how to use them, then you are probably stupid enough to send trashy postings to a trashy website. Duhh!

  8. I currently work for Rentway…. and apparently, I’ll be Rent A Center’s bitch soon. The arrow is modeled after Bill Short… former President of Rentway…

I only say that because he lied to us at the Las Vegas meetings when he said we wouldn’t be sold.

The plan to sell the company has been in the works since before the Vegas conference, although it wasn’t exactly KNOWN that Rent A Center would buy it until the end of March. Still, it wasn’t public knowledge. We just found that out this morning…via email.

Honestly, my whole store is depressed about it, and some of the Store Managers in the region have even put in their notice.

Gotta soldier on, though. Who knows? I can’t be sure what is worse. A Rentway Dildo or Rent a Center pussy……

  9. ….and while the DVD Packet that mysteriously showed up via Fed Ex to our store today (They say they didn’t plan this merger) is supposed to make us feel better, it does not.

When a person doesn’t blink, don’t trust them.

It’s mostly Rent A Center propoganda, anyway.

  10. I find this to be a most perfect time to layoff 1000’s of hard working employees that have dedicated their time and some even had to put their families 2nd to build what was nessisary to ensure a future always being pushed to the limit and asking more and more with less pay and basicly treating us as children when we were the backbone that made upper management rich and now even richer. I bet we are family is only if every active customer file is in order and accounted for. every penny on the floor is added to your nightly deposit. And we make sure that customer levels do not drop before the check is cashed by upper management then I bet make a call to HR to deal with insurance issues or, try to ask questions about when your take over day will be they know but guaranteed you wont find out, i guess it is true family is usually the first to fuck you over and promise you only a few will not suffer greatly from this financially why have two stores in the same town when all their interested in is those signed docs in your active files dont probbly take up 4 feet of space why have 2-5 thousand dollars a month overhead for 4 feet of space!! Only if their is a lease involved and promise you that your only there till that lease is over.. I share the vision we are family and upper management isnt part of that family they have not only sold us out they have sold out the customers that have choosen to come to rentway over arons or Rac to begin with that is true business once the check is cashed who cares what happens to you or I or them….. THEY DONT, WE ARE FAMILY, how much of that billions that they sold us for will we get in severence maybe 1000.00 or 1500.00 thats bairly enough to live off of for a month for small store managers, a week for larger ones and date the checks end probbly around christmas just before MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL just what I wanted from santa BILL a stocking full of shit with a smile on your rich ass face because your sitting pretty with your cut and a desk job with RAC while we I have to tell my children why their not getting much for christmas this year because I have no job Im sorry children I busted my but and only got to see you long enough to tuck you in and kiss you good by as I leave for work 2 hours before I open my store to do all this extra work to make my career go somewhere to maybe oneday give you everything you deserve and put you through school, I only see you 2 hours a day before bedtime but Bill says we must strive hard to achieve our goals and with managers dropping like flys seeing all these “open” under store manager on the KPI reports shows us daily how secure our job is if we dont put everything but it 2nd place and now we all start from the bottom if were lucky and most are treated like shit till we quit because were not all needed and thats obvious…..

  11. …It’s especially funny when the DVD said we didn’t have to worry about losing our jobs…..and then a few minutes later it was said that, “MOST of you will have a job IF you are willing to meet the new standards.”

I have no problem meeting the new standards, even though they are pretty much double what we’ve been doing… (at least, I hope so) but our store is in a small area… as it is, we already go almost 50 miles outside of town to increase our customer basis!

…It worries me that we won’t make the numbers…and the customers we DO have will be left to fend for themselves.

I’ve been going to school, working 50 hours a week for Rentway, and working phones at home at night.
I was saving up because I was going to buy a house.

Thank you, Rentway, for lining your pockets with the shattered fragments of my dreams.

I’ll get over it, though. I always survive, somehow.

  12. Sounds like an inside deal and I am just looking at this through a small window. I can’t imagine what will happen if people do not meet the RAC standards. These people have planned to gain from the employee of RentWay’s loss. I smell dookie!, and it has RentWay bigwig wrote all over it. They must have had a really smart and coniving lawyer to get around all the red tape that honest people dare not pass through. Can you say Martha Stewart kids?… I knew you could. Won’t you be my neighbor.

  13. Seems a lot of people got screwed without LUBE! Where’s the fun in that?

  14. Guys seriously, RAC is twice as intense and 10 times harder in terms of the paperwork/operational duties and meeting numbers. If you are a middle of the road Rentway manager or worse, quit as soon as possible you will be account managers soon. You will not be able to hit their collection standard, your a little too nice for the job. Just being honest…..

I ran a RAC store effectively and ranked highly won store of the month on numerous occassions but there are several of you here that are highly emotional and you will be weeded out quickly and unceremoniously.

    Good Luck to you all,

Glad I’m not in the business anymore…

  15. Well Well Well After talking to so much about being a brand and being so different than Aaron’s and RAC about a month later the company is sold to one of those competiters (RAC). All I can say is WOOOOOOOOOOOW like my boss I used to have. So much for We Are Family. This turned out to be the biggest bull crap line in the business. The funny thing is when i came back from vegas my buddy that works for Aarons told me that Rentway was going to sell because some of the big wigs were selling there stocks in the company. I blew it off like he didn’t know what her was talking about, but man did he see this coming.
Oh well I sure am glad im out of the industry after working at it for 7 years. This business probably has the highest divorce rate of all. The bigwigs want you to work from 8am to 9pm and six days a week if your a manager. This put a huge strain on my family i could never plan for a trip or really spend time with my son. I saw him probably 15-20 minutes a day usually because when i would come home he would be asleep already.

All i can say is good luck to all of you that find yourself on the outside looking in, when this “merger” (take over) gets finalized and takes place. This is a good time to find something else to do for a carear. All your management skils are transeferable. So get out of that comfort zone and do it

    once again good luck!!!!

  16. for all of you running your mouths your just scared afraid to be something better then you already are. you are leaving a very profitable company to merge and make a better company.if you cant deal with the hard standards and long hours then maybe you should all just quit .i personaly am looking forward to the pay increase ,the hard work and the challange of making rentway store 2027 a strong profit building store i have been there from the begining and i i have to ill see it to the end but i have enjoyed every damn minute of it. i have only got one thing left to say ” RTO LOVE IT or LEAVE IT “

  17. well, sounds like everyone is happy with the merger,I have been through it before,I used to work for rentavision. That was a shocker that man had us believing we were going to take over the world.I am not suprised that rwy is getting bought out. When you change things everyday because you do not know what direction to go in it is bound to happen.Who knows maybe it may work out in many people’s favor. The only thing I dont like is the uncertainty. Here it is the week of the merger and I dont know if I will be getting a paycut or a raise orlosing some of My hard earned vacation. We dont even know if we are changing are name.Whats a guy to do with all those stupid purple shirts, clean washers with them.I would like to know whats going on.

  18. Hey…remember me?…I’m post number 5. The guy who predicted the end of rentway. Damn, I was just venting, I didn’t think it was really gonna happen…but oh well theres only one bad thing about it. I actually jumped ship and went to RAC just a few days after my post. HOly crap, was that a dumb idea! Yeah, I’m making a LOT more money, but the hours are horrible. The standards, well, they aren’t that bad..the way i look at it is, they are numbers. Work hard, do your best and it will either happen or not. Just leave work at work and all will work out.

I am a single guy…and the hours suck. If the day comes that I have someone in my life ahain, then I will re-evaluate my priorities.

RAC does recognize that they are loosing good people due to the work load and are testing more flexible work hours around the country..so only time will tell if those of us in the field who really make this company grow and prosper will see the opportunity to make hard work and a good quality of life co-exist.

However, this is typical in pretty much every business where profits are the end goal. We as the “life blood” of the company will be pushed harder and harder to increase that bottom line. It’s nothing personal to us…we honestly do not matter to the executives in the big picture..its all about money and making the stockholders happy.

We can however make things change…if we like what we do and want to realize a reward for working hard…demand change. Stand up and voice your opinion. There is no policy against voicing your opinion. Change does not happen without action…maybe we as the “life blood” of the company should stand up and force a change.

To those who say…stop crying about working too many hours or calling those of us who express opinions about the sometimes unrealistic standards, work hours Ect. “loosers”…I have just one thing to say to you. Your the looser…maybe you don’t like to have a good quality of life, spend time with your family and see your children grow. If reaching 5.8% is higher on your list of priorities than watching your son play in his first baseball game…or see your daughters first dance recital, Then your the one(s) who need to re-examine your life goals…

Anyway, good luck to both sides of the fence affected by this merger…and remember, trust no-one…we as the “life blood” of this company trully do not matter in this transaction, no matter what we are told…take care of number one..(you) and be happy.
